Automatic Train Operation

Automatic Train Operation (ATO) is a system that calculates the optimal speed based on given data.

It ensures the train makes precise stops at the scheduled arrival time while providing high energy efficiency.

System Overview

Radio Block Center (RBC)

  • Controls train Movement Authority, Emergency Stop, Temporary Speed Restriction
  • Transmits Track Conditions, Static Speed Profile to KVC

Trackside ATO (ATO-TS)

  • Provide timetable-based train operation information (Journey Profile) from the CTC.
  • Data design based on the CTC's timetable and track information (Segment Profile)
  • Real-time provision of trackside information for on-board ATO operation.

Our Technology Expertise

  Handshake Function

  • Data exchange between ground and on-board ATO devices via wireless communication.
  • Real-time support for Automatic Train Operation (ATO) by adhering to wireless communication standards

  Journey Profile Management

  • Transmit the Operational Profile to the ATO-On-Board (ATO-OB) upon receiving a profile request packet.
  • Function to transmit the updated Operational Profile from the CTC to the ATO-OB

  Segment Profile Transmission

  • Function to transmit a Segment Profile packet, which contains trackside information, to the ATO-OB

Key Benefit

KTCS-3 ATO (Automatic Train Operation) technology offers a wide range of benefits, including accident prevention, reduced travel time, enhanced energy efficiency, and reduced costs.

Specifically, the KTCS-3 ATO is projected to deliver significant economic gains, with an estimated energy savings of up to 12% compared to traditional manual driving

  • Prevent Non-Stop Accident : The ATO system enhances safety by preventing operational accidents caused by human error
  • Reduced Travel Time: ATO shortens travel time by precisely controlling a train's acceleration and deceleration according to its timetable
  • Improved Energy Efficiency: ATO generates an optimal speed profile to reduce energy consumption, with an expected energy savings of up to 12% compared to manual operation
  • Reduced Costs: The system cuts operational costs through enhanced safety and improved energy efficiency
  • Enhanced Reliability: ATO provides accurate and consistent operation without human error, thereby improving overall system reliability
  • Advancement of K-Railway Technology: Developed with domestic technology, the KTCS-3 ATO contributes to the global market. It also enables more efficient operation by reducing train interval compared to the traditional fixed block system
