Korean Train Control System
KTCS-1
KTCS-1 is a Distance-to-Go type train control system based on the European standard ETCS Level 1, designed for compatibility. It allows the continued use of existing trackside equipment, making it advantageous for upgrades. Compared to the existing ATS system, KTCS-1 offers higher line capacity and proven safety through SIL4 certification.
Features
High data transmission capacity and performance
Continuous train monitoring based on a high level of data integrity
Reduced complexity in diagnostics and maintenance
Compatibility with existing signaling systems
Standardized system compliant with ETCS SRS 2.3.0d
Scalable upgrade path to KTCS-2 and KTCS-3
LEU
The LEU provides the variable Telegram to be transmitted in On-board phase to the variable Balise. Signal control information corresponding to the actual signal presentation is provided, and a previously defined coded Telegram is selected and transmitted to the variable Balise.
It is also a device that guarantees reliability and safety by SIL4 certification.
LEU intensively installs the signal control information in the signal relay room to receive signal control information from the interlocking device within the station to increase the convenience of maintenance and to make installation and construction simple.
The LEU is installed at the site to receive signal control information from the ABS in the block section. The LEU built at the site will receive power from the ABS.
Korean Train Control System
KTCS-2
KTCS-2 is a Korean-developed train control system fully localized using domestic technology, based on the European standard ETCS Level 2 to ensure compatibility. It is the world’s first real-time train control system based on 4th-generation wireless communication (LTE-R).

KTCS-3
KTCS-3 is the latest technology in railway signaling systems, and performs track occupancy detection of trains without the existing track circuit through continuous wireless communication between trains and trackside devices, and controls the location of trains and movement rights.
Features
The KTCS-3 RBC is the ground-based subsystem of Korea’s next-generation train control system, KTCS-3, developed in compliance with European standards (ERTMS/ETCS).
Receives and processes train position data from interlocking devices and wirelessly grants movement authority to ensure safe operation.
Maximizes operational efficiency through a radio-based block system, eliminating the need for traditional track circuits and reducing maintenance costs while improving infrastructure utilization.
Enables the operation of a greater number of trains within fixed intervals, enhancing capacity.
Interfaces with the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) system to provide safety functions such as emergency stop and temporary speed restrictions.
Developed as a Korean adaptation of the European standard (ERTMS/ETCS), tailored to meet domestic infrastructure and operational requirements.
First in the world to apply LTE-R, a dedicated railway wireless communication network, for faster data transmission than the European GSM-R standard.
Achieved SIL4 certification, the highest international safety integrity level, ensuring robust system safety.
Utilizes fully domestic, fail-safe hardware, securing independent national technology.
Certified through railway facility performance verification testing, providing a solid foundation for real-world deployment.
Reduced ground infrastructure compared to conventional systems, resulting in lower system and maintenance costs.

KTCS-M
The KTCS-M (Korean Train Control System-Metro) system is a wireless communication-based train control system for Metro and LRT. It is a CBTC solution that controls trains in real time by applying bidirectional continuous wireless communication technology, eliminating the need of track circuits based on the KRS SG 0069 standard.
Features
Train Position Detection
Detects train positions with high precision, regardless of the presence of track circuits.
Real-Time Train Tracking
Tracks train positions in real time, within 500 milliseconds.
Vital Function Processing
Separately processes vital and non-vital functions for critical signaling equipment.
Bidirectional Wayside-to-On vehicle Communication
Utilizes continuous bidirectional wireless communication between onboard and wayside equipment.
Support for Fully Automated Unattended Train Operation (UTO)
Supports Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) for fully unattended train operation.
Interoperability
Ensures interoperability with other systems through compliance with the KRS SG 0069 protocol.
Safety Integrity
Implements equipment certified to Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL4) in accordance with international safety standards.
