INTERGRATED RAILWAY WIRELESS NETWORK

By applying LTE-R (Long Term Evolution for Railway) technology, a mobile broadband communication standard based on LTE, digital IP communication is established between the ground control system and onboard control system. The definition and standardization comply with the technical standards of the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) and the terminal compatibility requirements of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

Features

Based on the same technology as standard LTE, but ensures high reliability and availability to support railway operational safety.

Configuration

Composed of the LTE system's Radio Access Network (RAN) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) with additional functions essential for railway operations such as train location/status monitoring and MC-PTT (Mission Critical Push-to-Talk) communication.

Functions

Provides individual calls (1:1), group calls (1:n), high-speed data transmission, emergency communication, base station (DU) redundancy and coverage redundancy.

Effects

  • Enhanced Safety
Secures safety through a dedicated wireless communication network between trains and control centers.

  • Improved Efficiency
Enables immediate situation awareness through high-speed, real-time voice and data transmission.

  • Reduced Operating Costs
Replaces aging wireless systems (VHF, TRS) and reduces maintenance costs through system integration.

  • Expected Benefits
Lays the groundwork for future expansion into 5G-R (FRMCS) and autonomous (V2X-based) train operations.
